Economics and Finance Department
Established on March 13, 2013, the Economics and Finance Department aims to cultivate individuals with in-depth knowledge in the fields of economics and finance. This department teaches students how to work effectively in financial markets and institutions, in addition to equipping them with microeconomic and macroeconomic theories. Graduates leave with a strong foundation in financial analysis, investment strategies, risk management, and economic policies, enabling them to successfully integrate into the business world. The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of both the Turkish and global economies.
WHY SHOULD YOU CHOOSE THE ECONOMICS AND FINANCE DEPARTMENT?
Money and capital markets play a crucial role in directing a country’s savings into efficient and productive investment areas, thereby accelerating economic development. The need for experts in these markets is growing every day to ensure they are managed in a competitive, fair, and equitable manner.
With the rapid increase in monetary transaction volumes due to globalization, international financial markets have reached a point where neither economics nor finance alone is sufficient. There is now a demand for professionals who possess both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in these fields.
Additionally, in a dynamic economy like Turkey’s, with high growth potential, the demand for a qualified workforce capable of making and implementing economic decisions is becoming increasingly important.
In 2021, our Economics and Finance Department was recognized by the CFA Institute, which grants the globally prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) license. To be designated as a “CFA Affiliated University”, at least 70% of the department’s curriculum must align with the topics covered in the CFA Level 1 exam, while also adhering to ethical investment principles.
Currently, 716 universities from 76 countries have met these minimum criteria and been accepted into the program. In Turkey, only 14 universities have obtained this significant distinction.
The strength of Piri Reis University’s curriculum proves that students are equipped with world-class competencies in investment and finance. Additionally, our students qualify for CFA scholarship opportunities. Initially, three students will benefit from this scholarship, allowing them to take the first step toward earning the globally recognized CFA license with ease.
The CFA certification is an international three-stage license, widely recognized for careers as investment analysts, portfolio managers, and financial experts. It is a high-income certification that accelerates career advancement.
Currently, more than 178,000 professionals worldwide hold the CFA license, working at over 25,000 leading companies in top-level positions. The Capital Markets Board (SPK), which regulates Turkey’s capital markets, also recognizes this certification.
